About BRINDABELLA

Before European settlement, Brindabella was inhabited by the Ngunawal, Walgalu and Djimantan Aboriginal tribes and the town name is thought to mean 'two kangaroo rats'. The valley was first settled as a stock outstation as early as the 1830s. The author Miles Franklin was born at Talbingo in 1879 and grew up in Brindabella. She was the granddaughter of Joseph Franklin who purchased land in the valley in 1849 and tried to settle there. However, his cattle were killed by the Aborigines and he was driven out.

Brindabella is a beautiful, isolated valley at the edge of the Snowy Mountains, a popular retreat for people wanting to unwind from city life.
