About HARDEN

The Wiradjuri people inhabited the area prior to European settlement, which began after exploration of the area by Hamilton Hume in 1824. A sheep station known as 'Murrumburra' was established in the late 1820s.

In 1858 a settlement was gazetted and called Murrimboola (an Aboriginal word meaning 'two waterholes'). The name was again changed to Murrumburrah about 1880. The railway station was built in 1877 and the town became an important rail centre.

The town is located on Murrimboola Creek and the area produces a large range of crops, including a variety of fruits.
