About WEE JASPER

The tiny village of Wee Jasper is located in a valley at the foot of the Brindabella Ranges. The explorers Hume and Hovell passed through the valley on their 1824 expedition to Port Phillip. Soon afterwards W.H. Dutton took up 2560 acres at the junction of the Murrumbidgee and Goodradigbee Rivers.

Well known Australian poet Banjo Paterson owned part of 'Goodravale' property on the east bank of the Murrumbidgee River at Wee Jasper. He sometimes used it as a country home so that his children could experience country life.

Panoramic views of the valley and of Burrinjuck Dam unfold as the Wee Jasper Road descends towards the Murrumbidgee River. Limestone rock formations which are millions of years old can clearly be seen in the cliffs arising from the river.

There are numerous limestone caves in the Wee Jasper Valley, the best known being Carey's Cave which is open for inspection. Hiking the Hume & Hovell Walking Track, outstanding trout fishing in the Goodradigbee River, fossicking, caving and horse riding are the main activities which can be enjoyed by visitors to Wee Jasper.
