In January events in Gerroa and nearby Gerringong include Surf Spectacular Carnival, Captain Christie Ocean Swim, Brekkie on the Beach. Shoalhaven Coast Wine Festival is held in June, and the Cow and the Sea Art and Film Festival in September and the South Coast Surfing Open in October, plus many more.

For those who wish to enjoy the natural environment, Gerroa is known as the area where the mountains meet the sea, and there are many bushwalks to do from the Gerroa area. Hoddles Track, starting from Saddleback Mountain, Griffins Trail, located at Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, the Coastal Trail, from Kiama to Gerringong, and Bushbank Mill track (just south of Kiama). Seven Mile Beach National Park, Coomonderry Swamp, where there is extensive birdlife. It is the largest remaining freshwater swamp on the NSW coast is an important breeding ground for several birds. The swamp is situated off the Coolangatta Road just before Shoalhaven Heads.

Seven Mile Beach National Park at Beach Road has a new wooden walkway to the beach and viewing platform and the nearby car park provides easy beach access to all, including the disabled.

The Gerroa area also has many wineries such as Crooked River Winery and Coolangatta Estate Winery.
