About FORSTER

Forster is a large coastal town in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales in Great Lakes Council. It is a twin city of Tuncurry where Wallis Lake meets the ocean, surrounded by National Parks and State Forests, with long stretches of secluded beaches.

Forster-Tuncurry is now a well known family holiday destination with plenty of beaches offering good fishing, surfing and swimming. Cape Hawke, one of the most northerly points of Booti Booti National Park, is nearby.

Forster has a population of 21,212 people. This number grows considerably in the tourist season. Because of its close driving proximity to Sydney Forster has established itself as a popular summer holiday destination, where in the hotter months the population swells considerably.

Wallis Lake is 25km long and 9km wide with many islands and access points scattered around its shore. This magnificent area has numerous opportunities for water skiing, kayaking and boating. It is also the home of the award wimming Wallis Lake oyster.

Forster/Tuncurry is the ideal base from which to explore the Great Lakes.

Boating, fishing, diving, coastal walks and dolphin/whale watching are just some of the activities to experience. Combine these with art & craft gelleries, museums, unique shopping, sporting facilities, amusement parks and clubs and you have some idea why Forster/Tuncurry evokes such fond memories for so many.

The school holidays of the colder months also bring considerable amounts of holidaymakers.
The most popular beaches are Forster Main beach and One Mile beach, serviced by Forster and Cape Hawke Surf Lifesaving Clubs respectively.
