Gold was discovered in the area in the late 1800s. Bredbo became a safe haven from bushrangers during the Kiandra gold rush. The Bredbo Inn is one of the historic buildings still in the village. The Inn was the original stagecoach stop for people travelling to the South Coast or the Snowy Mountains.
