About BUNDANOON

The name Bundanoon is thought to be derived from the word bantanoon, used by the original inhabitants, the Dharawal Aborigines. The first Europeans passed through the district in 1798, but it was not until the 1861 Land Act that the area opened up for European settlement. The area was known locally as Bantanoon and then Barren Ground. The name Bundanoon came into existence in 1880.

Bundanoon has excellent bushwalking in the beautiful Morton National Park and visitors can relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air. There is a well established artists colony and many of the old guest houses have been restored and reopened. The area is a perfect place to unwind from the pace of modern life.
