About BRISBANE

Brisbane is the state capital of Queensland and the third largest city in Australia. It is located on the Brisbane River which was named after the Governor of NSW Sir Thomas Brisbane.

The Yagarabul and Ngundanbi Aboriginal people are believed to have lived along the banks of the river prior to European settlement. A penal colony was established at Redcliffe on Moreton Bay in 1824 but it was abandoned in favour of a riverside location which was on the site of the current business district. By 1842 it was a free settlement and was initially called Edinglassie.

Brisbane was separated from NSW and Queensland was proclaimed a new colony in 1859 by its first Governor, Sir George Bowen.

Brisbane is a fun and friendly city offering the best in climate, arts, entertainment, culture, parks and gardens. The city offers many choices when it comes to restaurants, alfresco dining on the South Bank, Fortitude Valley, Chinatown, or a simple family picnic in one of the many parks.
