About ST KILDA

St Kilda is located south of Melbourne. This seaside resort is in close proximity to the city centre and is truly a cosmopolitan suburb, which is located between Albert Park and Elwood.

St Kilda is most famous for its food, exciting night life and entertainment. If you’re into shopping, cafes and fashion, go to Acland Street. If you’re a lover of restaurants, bars and hotels, Fitzroy Street will be your destination, and you won’t be disappointed.

St Kilda has many attractions, but one of the most famous is St Kilda Pier, a landmark not to be missed. St Kilda Pier was built after a storm destroyed the Fitzroy Street jetty in 1859.

To the end of the pier is a breakwater, which was constructed for the Olympic Games back in 1956. Today the breakwater is home to hundreds of penguins.

Soon after the pier is built, Francis Parer, a caterer, submits rough plans and details of a St Kilda Pier Kiosk to the St Kilda Council.

In 1904 The Kiosk is completed, but unfortunately it's destroyed by fire in 2003. Since the fire the kiosk has been re-built with a viewing deck that has panoramic views across the bay.
The St Kilda Sea Baths, built in the 1990s, is also part of the complex.

For those wishing to keep fit, you’ll love walking, riding or inline-skating along the network of pathways that line the St Kilda foreshores.

In 1969 the St Kilda Marina was built. Today the marina is a public boardwalk with fine restaurants and amazing views.

In 1890, at the junction of St Kilda Road and Carlisle Street, the St Kilda Town Hall was built. This piece of architecture is most impressive and makes for a landmark well worth the visit.

There are many elegant gardens and reserves in St Kilda. No doubt the most impressive garden being the heritage-listed 6½ hectare Botanical Gardens, which you’ll find east of Barkly Street and the O'Donnell Gardens, located right next to Luna Park.

Along the golden sands of St Kilda’s coastline you’ll find many gardens. One not to be missed is the formal Catani Gardens.

St Kilda is the perfect base for those wishing to explore Melbourne. The trams are an excellent mode of transport for those with or without a car.

St Kilda is adjacent to Albert Park Lake, which is the home of the annual Formula Grand Prix.
