About WARTOOK

Alexandra is located at the junction of the Goulburn Valley and Maroondah Highways. It was originally called Red Gate, the last gold rush town in Victoria in 1867, and some superb historic buildings in the town testify to it's prosperous past. Timber and pastoralism became the major local industries when the gold had run out. It is believed that the town was named after Alexandra, Princess of Wales.

Local attractions include Lake Eildon which is the largest man-made lake in Victoria, popular for boating, water sports, bush walking, camping and trout fishing, and McKenzies's Flora Reserve with displays of native Australian wildflowers and rare orchids.
