About HEALESVILLE

Healesville is located at the confluence of Watts River and Grace Burn Creek. The town was established in the 1860s and named after Richard Heales who was the Premier of Victoria. Timber cutters moved into the district, followed by farming, fruit and hop growing, grazing and wheat.

Today Healesville is a flourishing tourist resort, with local vineyards and the Healesville Sanctuary, a reserve which was established on land that was previously part of the Coranderrk Aboriginal Mission.

There are numerous parks in the area, most of which have walking tracks and picnic facilities. These include Badger Weir Park, Maroondah Reservoir Park, Fernshaw Park, Donnellys Weir Park, and the Toolangi Forest Discovery Centre.

Potteries, galleries, antique centres, wineries and the Singing Gardens of Australian poet C.J. Dennis are some of the other attractions.
