About BRIDGETOWN

Bridgetown is located 95 km south of Bunbury, and is nestled amongst the hills on the banks of the Blackwood River. The first European explorer came to the area in 1834 and the first settler arrived in the early 1860s. It is thought that the name of the town was derived from its location (at a bridge) and from the ''Bridgetown'' which was the first ship to put in at Bunbury.

Today Bridgetown is a thriving district renowned for its gardens, recognised as a ''Heritage Town'' in 2000. The major industries are timber, fruit growing and tin mining. Attractions in the area are the scenic drives, the range of historical buildings, The Brierley Jigsaw Gallery, Bridgetown Jarrah Park, Suttons Lookout, Blackwood Environment Centre and the River Park.
